Signing #1 update

Well, I survived my first signing at Borders. They had two tables set up for Amy Knupp and I, with about 8 or 10 each of our books displayed on the tables.

The manager came by to welcome us, and let us know there was a problem. He had a good supply of our books set aside for the signing, but an employee mistakenly returned them to the distributor. So the manager had to scramble around town to find the few copies displayed.

Thankfully we came prepared with extra copies, as we’d heard similar horror stories. In fact I’ve heard so many more exact same tales of late that I’m a tad suspicious now. Are there really that many clueless employees? 🙂

At any rate, we sold out the copies on hand plus about 15 more (for me), Amy may have sold more.

It was great fun to share this experience with my friend and CP. Who knows if we’ll have books releasing at the same time again, or if bookstores will still be hosting booksignings. They are getting to be a rare thing.

I posted a couple of pictures on my website of the event.

Oh, Kalen Hughes at History Hoydens posted a interview of me. Come by and say hi!

First signing

I’m off in a bit to Kansas City for my first official signing. This is a joint event with good friend and critique partner Amy Knupp, so the nervous factor isn’t overwhelming for me. I figure Amy will do enough fretting for both of us, lol.

She’s signing her second release, THE BOY NEXT DOOR. It’s a great read and one you don’t want to miss. For me, I’m signing copies of my hunky hero, ONE REAL COWBOY. Friend and fellow Writeminded gal Larissa Ione swears the real cover is much better than the online jpeg. Gotta agree with that! And my other cp and friend, Sharon Long, said copies of ORC were flying off the shelves in Texas. Hey, she took pictures of it! Thanks, GF!

Today’s signing is at Borders, 9108 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS (‘burb of KC). If you’re in the area, stop on by.

Wish me luck!

Oh, speaking of writeminded–we’ve launched a readers chat group through yahoo. To join, send a blank email to writeminded_readers@yahoogroups.com.

Front page news

Woohoo, I made the front page of my local paper, and in a good way. This was my first interview, but it went well. Check it out. 🙂 Oh, in the real version, they had my pic and the cover of One Real Cowboy. Verra cool.

Celebrate Romance Conference

This past weekend was fun and eye-opening. It’s always good to hear the readers take on our novels, and the majority were very eager to share. Not surprisingly, some don’t have a good grasp on how the industry works, and how little imput the author has in some aspects. (Like covers, release dates)

But all in all it was a good small conference, very laid back and peopled with some big names in the industry. I was happy to meet and talk with some of my fav authors. In no particular order: Jenna Peterson, Lorraine Heath, Lori Wilde, Patricia Rice, Cathy Maxwell, Cindy Kirk, Elizabeth Hoyt, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Sandy Blair, Melody Thomas.

The talks by authors were short but very informative and entertaining. Jenna Peterson and Jade Lee could be standup comics, imo.

I picked up books by new-to-me authors as well. The food was fabulous and way too much. 🙂 I did my first ever signing and sold out. YAY! And I’ve posted a few pictures on my website.

So now it’s back to work, after my first interview with a reporter in about an hour. Catch you all later.
